As an undergraduate research assistant in Dr. Barbieri's lab, my research project focuses on studying the effects of various Ras mutations in the various phases of adipogenesis. Currently I am working with various cell lines, but primarily with 3T3-L1 pre-adipocyte cells. In my time in lab I have learned how to extract bacterial DNA and Transfect my target cell line with the mutation of interest, as well as performed western blots and work with bacterial cultures. Working in a lab has developed in me a sense of dedication and passion for the sciences. My lab work has provided me with an enriched experience of what it means to be a scientist. In addition through my lab I have had the opportunity to gain experience in presenting my research at symposiums and poster presentations and will be publishing this semester.
